FAQs

I know there are a lot of questions when it comes to hiring a photographer. So here are some answers to ease your mind and start our session off right:

Q: What am I really paying for?
A: This is a great question that I am asked often. Your session fee includes many things. First, it includes the time and talent of the photographer. Secondly, it includes a DVD of images from your session (about 20-30 images depending on size of group and length of session). Lastly, we have the personal print release. This allows you to print your pictures where you want at the cost you want.

Q: Will your watermark (logo) be on all the photos you give me?
A: Again, another great question. The answer is no. My watermark will not be in any of the photos I give you on your DVD. Those are your pictures for you to print and keep forever! My watermark only appears on the photos I post on social media (i.e. my blog, Facebook, etc.) The pictures I post with the watermark are for you to share with friends and family on the internet.

Q: What is a print release, exactly?
A: A print release  is a private agreement that gives you permission to print the pictures I give you wherever works the best for you. However, If you wish to post any pictures to social media or internet, I ask that you either use the photos that I post with my watermark or credit Allison Rex Photography with the photo that you post. The print release is for private use only.

Q: Why does it take so long to get my photos after the session?
A: The length of our session (the time it actually takes for me to take the pictures) is only a very small part of all the work that goes into being a good photographer. Once I have your photos taken and we part ways, I have hours and hours and HOURS of editing that I do to make sure each picture looks, well picture perfect! I come home with hundreds of photos to sift through, and that takes time. I have to edit out stray hairs, anything that may be distracting in the background, closed eyes, blemishes, etc. It is definitely not an easy task, but that is what makes it so fun! I want to make you look your very best in the photos you are paying for. Rushing leaves room for error and these are your precious memories that I am capturing. They deserve time.

Q: What should I wear?
A: This may be one of the most popular questions I am asked. I always say, wear something that is comfortable and that is you. If you don't feel right in it, it will totally show in your pictures. Other things I like to consider are items that are visually interesting, like funky patters or an awesome pair of shoes. If you are preparing for a group photo, I definitely think it is a good idea to coordinate styles and colors. If someone is in a suit and another in a t-shirt and jeans, it may not make for the most cohesive photo. A mix of solids and patterns always makes for interesting pictures. Bring some chapstick or lip gloss too! Chapped lips are impossible to edit.

Q: What are things I can do to prepare for a successful photo session with kids?
A: This may be the most important question yet! Little ones who are well-fed and well-napped are so much happier in front of the camera. However, if you have a toddler like mine, well-napped is a relative term (I think she knows when we have something important going on in the evening that may get in the way of bedtime, she always seems to take short naps on important and busy evenings).  Parents, don't stress if your little isn't looking perfectly posed at the camera and smiling. Some of my favorite pictures are on the go and laid back.
